River Project:The Bow
Topographic Line
Environmental Design Gallery,
University of Calgary, November 2002

Topographic Line, is the second part of the River Project: The Bow installation and was situated on the wall opposite the Douglas Fir and White Spruce seedlings that were germinated from seeds collected along the Bow River.

A thirty foot long topographic line was made from clear vinyl tubing which was then filled with water collected from the Bow River. Copper brackets held this water line in place - copper is associated with purifying the spirit and fosters healing, strength and balance.

Topographic Line speaks of the river, of water, that gives life to everything including the seedlings on the opposite wall. Viewers walk between the walls, finding a balance between seedling row and the river line.
